The Discipleship Project originates from a parable Jesus recounts in Luke Chapter Fourteen, the Parable of the Great Feast. It tells us that the persons most likely to respond to God's mercy and grace are found along the periphery  of society - the "marginals," living in the "streets and lanes," the "highways and hedges" - meaning persons who have little or no stake in the established order.

Nevertheless, the church has not made the "marginals" the focus of her efforts. And the reason is not difficult to pinpoint: it's because of the immense effort required to "sanctify" them - meaning deliver them not just from the penalty of sin, but from the power of sin as well - drug addictions, chaos, anger, bitterness, mistrust, an entitlement mind-set, and so much more. That's what The Discipleship Project is all about - to both reach out to them and then to help sanctify them.

The 54th Street Discipleship House will serve as an entry point into our "in-house" Discipleship Program. This is where the disciples will be trained (1) to make Christ the center of their lives, to live together in love and forebearance, exhorting and encouraging one another, (3) to minister to the lost - reaching them for Christ.

living in community

Some of the disciples who complete their "stint" at the mid-town training center may decide they want to live on their own. Our hope is to lease and/or purchase apartments and homes to make this possible. The apartments and homes will be in close proximity to each other so as to facilitate on-going community as well as their on-going participation in the program.
